Plan 2040 is a nonprofit civil association founded in 2016 in Cuatro Ciénegas, Mexico. Rooted in the belief that a person’s origin should never determine their destiny, Plan 2040 walks hand in hand with new generations and their families through a holistic, long-term plan.
Through five key pillars — education, health, family and youth, spirituality, and family economy — Plan 2040 strengthens the community’s social fabric and works to ensure that new generations can complete their education, grow with dignity, and reach their full potential. Through elohim, participants are invited to serve within these ongoing initiatives, connecting each mission experience to real local leadership, long-term accompaniment, and meaningful community impact.

Everything leaders and participants tend to ask before living ELOHIM.
ELOHIM is a Catholic mission and pilgrimage experience in Cuatro Ciénegas that invites participants to encounter God through service, prayer, community, and the beauty of creation.
ELOHIM takes place in Cuatro Ciénegas, Coahuila, Mexico—a protected desert oasis known for its remarkable biodiversity, natural pools, gypsum dunes, and extraordinary landscapes. It is located approximately three and a half to four hours by road from Monterrey, Saltillo, or Torreón.
ELOHIM welcomes everyone. Our groups often include schools, universities, parishes, youth and mission groups, families, and other faith-based or community organizations—but all are welcome.
You can bring an organized group and request a customized experience, or register individually for one of the open dates published on our website.
Private-group programs are tailored to the group’s dates, size, ages, interests, profile, and the type of experience they are looking for.
ELOHIM has a clear Catholic identity, but participation is not limited to Catholic groups. Christian communities and other groups are welcome, and the balance of prayer, service, nature, and fellowship can be adapted while preserving the identity of the experience.
Most ELOHIM programs last between four and seven days. The final duration is tailored to the group’s profile, interests, preferred activities, and overall experience.
Depending on the selected program, the package may include lodging, meals, transportation, a community service project with Plan 2040, the St. Joseph’s Way pilgrimage, ecotourism experiences, and support from the ELOHIM team throughout the experience.
Specific inclusions are detailed in each group proposal or open-date registration.
Exclusions vary by program. In general, airfare, personal expenses, travel insurance, medical expenses, and any optional upgrades or activities not specifically listed in the package are not included.
Most groups stay at Hotel Marielena, a boutique hotel located in the historic center of Cuatro Ciénegas. We also offer an outdoor lodging option at a private campsite within the ecotourism park.
Groups may choose one option or combine both, depending on their profile, preferred experience, and budget. Room occupancy and lodging arrangements are tailored accordingly.
ELOHIM works hand in hand with Plan 2040, a local nonprofit that has supported new generations and their families in Cuatro Ciénegas since 2016.
Community service is connected to Plan 2040’s ongoing initiatives in education, health, family development, spirituality, and economic empowerment.
The project is selected with Plan 2040 based on current community needs and what is most suitable for each group.
It may include painting, organizing, or improving homes, schools, and community spaces; supporting camps, workshops, formation activities, sports tournaments, and gatherings; or taking part in other community initiatives alongside Plan 2040. No previous volunteer experience is required.
The complete St. Joseph’s Way is a 20 km pilgrimage divided into 14 stations and normally completed over three days. Participants should be comfortable walking for extended periods, but the pace can be adapted and transportation between stations may be arranged when necessary.
No. A group can live ELOHIM without bringing a priest. Groups that want their own priest, chaplain, or spiritual guide are welcome to bring one, with advance coordination and the required ministerial documentation.
Mass, confession, adoration, and other spiritual moments can be included according to the itinerary and availability. A priest is not automatically included in every package, but the ELOHIM team can help coordinate with the local parish or with a priest accompanying the group.
Cuatro Ciénegas is a small, welcoming town, and participant safety is carefully considered throughout the entire experience.
The ELOHIM team plans and coordinates each itinerary in advance, works with trusted local providers, and uses established routes and venues. Our team accompanies the group and remains attentive and available throughout the entire experience.
Before arrival, group leaders also receive key logistics, emergency contacts, recommendations, and the information needed to help participants prepare.
Transportation arrangements depend on the selected package. Local transportation throughout the experience is typically included, and transfers to and from Cuatro Ciénegas may also be arranged from Monterrey, Saltillo, or Torreón.
Vehicles are selected according to the group’s size and needs and are operated by trusted, experienced drivers.
A complete packing list is shared before the trip. Essentials usually include comfortable clothing, closed-toe walking shoes or trekking shoes, a swimsuit, a light jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent, personal medications, a reusable water bottle, and some cash for personal purchases.
Travel insurance is not required by ELOHIM, but it is strongly recommended, especially for participants traveling from outside Mexico or anyone who wants additional protection for medical needs, delays, cancellations, or other unexpected situations.
Each participant must provide relevant medical conditions, allergies, dietary restrictions, current medications, accessibility needs, and an emergency contact during registration. Participants should also bring all personal medications and prescriptions they may need.
The ELOHIM team reviews all medical, dietary, allergy, and accessibility information provided during registration so the experience can be planned as safely and appropriately as possible.
We carry basic first-aid supplies, coordinate dietary restrictions with our providers, and remain attentive to participants’ needs throughout the program. Cuatro Ciénegas has local health centers, while the nearest hospital is located in Monclova, approximately one hour away.
Any specific medical or accessibility needs or concerns should be shared with our team through the registration form or by email before arrival. This allows us to evaluate each activity in advance and make reasonable adjustments whenever possible.
Yes. Every participant must complete an individual registration, even when traveling with an organized group. This gives the team the personal, emergency, medical, and authorization information needed to coordinate the experience safely.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe. The amount due varies by program, and complete payment instructions, deadlines, processing fees, and cancellation policies are available in the Payment section of our website.
For private groups, organizers may choose whether participants pay ELOHIM directly through individual payment links or submit their payments to the group organizer, who then makes a single payment to ELOHIM.
Unless different terms are stated in a specific group agreement, cancellations made at least 45 days before the trip receive a full refund; cancellations made at least 30 days before receive a 50% refund; and cancellations made within 30 days of the trip are non-refundable. Any approved changes or transfers remain subject to availability and confirmed logistics.
